There are many multipurpose spaces in a city where one can meet, work, grab a coffee, have a business lunch or dine. Not all these places ‘work’ for me. A favourite hang out, meeting space, office, meet-a-friend and romantic-mini-break-holiday spot is The Hoxton. This place – I visit the one in Amsterdam frequently and started 2016 with a short stay at The Hoxton in Shoreditch, London – combines a creative city buzz with a luxurious lounge feeling. Suitable for all kinds of occasions; work or hide-away in the city. The Hoxton hotels reflect the urban vibes we love and The Style Office well: workstyle meets lifestyle at The Hoxton.
Design
The lounges at The Hoxton venues are not designed as the hotel lobby’s we know. In Amsterdam it feels like I’m in one big cosy living room; easy going, laptop on my lap. Amsterdam bloggers united. This place is obviously very Instagrammable and I post happily on Instagram myself:-)). The lounge in the Shoreditch Hoxton-version makes me hungry for early breakfast meetings, doing business deals and late evening drinks, celebrating with colleagues. Lucky me; I can drink cocktails with my love at the spacious fireplace since we are on a little city-trip together. Business or pleasure, it all mingles well in the Hoxton.
The furniture has a classy and timeless style, in both locations. Combined with the colours, tiles and brick & concrete walls, the effect is a contemporary urban look, yet not too hip. The atmosphere is welcoming to hotel guests as well as the next door neighbour. The interior in Amsterdam is designed by nicemakers.com. The Amsterdam location has won the Entree Hospitality & Style Award in the category Best Hotel Design in 2015.
Sleep, eat, work, play
The design matches the hotel’s payoff. Well done, I think. It fits the diverse wishes and intentions of guests, visitors and urban wanderers now a days.

Comfort
To me, comfort in a hotel is not about the amount of pillows. I feel comfortable if a hotel is wrapped around my schedule. In The Hoxton in Shoreditch this means: The room is done already after our breakfast, so I can write at a clean desk (not a standard and dull hotel room desk, but a nice one, with street view, daylight on the desk!). It means I can choose a simple breakfast bag drop-off (banana, orange juice, granola, yoghurt) if I don’t feel like eggs in the morning or have to leave early. It means I can work anywhere and can find silent and more lively workspots. And it means I can escape work energy. Whether you are in this hotel for a short romantic city trip or whether you need to continue your business routines without disturbances, this hotel fits in. It’s not the other way around.
City in the city
The Hoxton in Shoreditch is proud to be part of the creative East London, a hood waiting to be explored. The Hoxton in Amsterdam is made up of 5 canal houses. This building was once home to the Mayor, way back in the 17th century. The hotel is in between two canals, one on each side of the building, so it offers many beautiful canal views.
Hoxtown was created by The Hoxton to showcase the good and great from the neighbourhoods and surroundings of the hotels. It’s a programme of monthly events featuring friends from the neighbourhood. A guide curated with help from the locals. It’s also The Hoxton blog, the place to go online for inside info on what’s happing in town.
Another thing I like at The Hoxton is the staff wearing normal clothes instead of classic hotel work wear or stiff uniforms. Neighbour, visitor, coworker, staff? You don’t really know. What would he or she be here for?
I’m going to figure out a reason to visit the 3rd location soon: The Hoxton in Holborn, London. And good news for Paris and NYC lovers; The Hoxton promises to open up locations in 2016!
